Casino Honours Wounded Soldiers

Since 9/11 American soldiers have been fighting the war on terror overseas and sometimes there seems to be little done to honour them or the work they do regardless of personal opinion surrounding this current war. But Memorial Day weekend in Las Vegas proved that someone out there truly appreciates the sacrifices these brave men and women are making. In an effort to show that appreciation, the Venetian Resort Hotel Casino in Las Vegas extended a royal welcome to wounded soldiers in an effort to honor them over the holiday.
Memorial Day was set up as a holiday to remember all those in the military who were injured or died in the line of duty during the many wars that have been waged by American soldiers. Billionaire Sheldon Adelson, who is the head of the Las Vegas Sands Corporation paid to have around thirty-six wounded soldiers flown from the recovery beds at the National Naval Medical Center in Maryland and the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC, to the Venetian in Las Vegas in order to celebrate and honour their service to the United States.
Greeted by international star Wayne Newton at the Las Vegas airport, the soldiers were given royal treatment as they spent some relaxing time away from the confines and sterile atmosphere of the hospitals. They were treated to many perks by Adelson, Newton, and their staff – one of which was the opportunity to go back stage and meet the members of the Blue Man Group. One lucky soldier, Kyle Riley, was treated to a fully paid wedding for him and his fiancée, courtesy of Adelson who insisted on arranging the entire thing at the Venetian for the couple. It’s Adelson’s way of saying thanks.
Says Jimmy Kinsley, one of the lucky soldiers treated to the Las Vegas trip, “The trip was a way for the soldiers to get away from everyday life in the hospitals. I’m gonna be bragging about this for a long time.” Each of the soldiers was given all of the perks usually reserved for the Venetian’s high rollers, including penthouses to stay in during the duration, money for gambling, food, tickets to shows and more.
Adelson arranged this special honour with the Armed Forces Foundation and according to representatives from both, this is only the beginning of many more to come. Adelson has stated that he wants every soldier that is currently recuperating at the two military hospitals to be able to make the all expenses paid trip and enjoy time with their friends and family relaxing while home from their tour of duty.
